Some people can draw and paint with a skill that I will never posses. A number of my family members can easily transform the blank canvas into a beautiful picture and we’re not talking paint by numbers. They see what they want on the canvas and draw it. It is truly an amazing gift and one that I’m lacking. I can master a circle, square and a triangle, but beyond that nothing.
While I may not have the drawing skill, I can design a landscape along with the best designers. For over a decade now, I have been designing and re-designing my back yard in my mind’s eye so that when finished it will reveal a canvas of brightly colored plants, shrubs, yard ornaments and maybe a waterfall and pond. It has remained a dream all this time because Spencer and Tasha used to tear up everything in the yard, neither dog was very graceful with plants.
Max is different. He doesn’t dig, thank goodness. He’s not interested in things that dogs do, like retrieving the ball. If I plant something in the ground, he will sit and lay next to it, because it’s the last place where I was at.
The side yard is coming along and more plants are in the ground along with a few solar powered lights. It is by no means finished, but the painters canvas is beginning to reveal a picture. It’s definitely an improvement over the plain sidewalk and dirt that has been there all these years. There’s something magical about a project on its way to completion.
